How to make your home more eco-friendly and sustainable

1. Insulation of Walls, Floors and Loft-space

Insulating your properties walls, floors and loft space will primarily help you save on your energy costs and will make the house warmer and sustainable because heat won’t be able to pass in and out of the house as easily. An ideal temperature will be maintained regardless of the weather conditions outside, so in both summer and winter the house will be comfortable, not too hot, or too cold.

2.  Double Glazing

Double glazing is another great way to improve the insulation and sustainability of your property. This stops draughts through your windows, reduces outside noise, and keeps the heat in, reducing bills, and improving sustainability. Though don’t forget that if you don’t open your window vents you may suffer from high levels of moisture and potential mould.

4. Efficient HVAC System

Efficient Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems are a fundamental part of building a sustainable home. Selecting an efficient HVAC system and maintaining it well will save water and energy, reduce your carbon footprint and all in all help the environment. Remember to maintain these systems well to avoid costly repair bills. These systems also keep moisture levels acceptable without losing heat by opening window vents.

3. Solar Panels and Air Source Heat Pumps

Solar panels are a clean, green way of generating energy for your home while reducing your carbon footprint at the same time. They don’t release any greenhouse gases; they are self-sufficient and a great easy way to make your home more eco-friendly. Also consider a battery back-up system which stores unused energy to use during the night and power outages.

5. Motion Sensing Lighting

Motion sensors will reduce the use of your lights by only turning them on when a person is in the room and turning them off when lights are no longer needed, thereby reducing your energy bills.

6. Talk to the Experts

Experts can perform an energy audit to give you specific advice, tailored to your needs and facilities that use the latest technology to ensure your home is as sustainable as possible.
